Parks and Open Spaces
The District Council is responsible for a variety of attractive
parks and open spaces in the area, each with its own character
and distinctiveness. Some, such as The Mansion Gardens,
are quite places for rest and recuperation. Others are busy
recreation grounds for more formal sports and activities,
for example Fortyfoot Recreation Ground. Yet others are
extensive areas of parkland, notably Ashtead Park. Park
Gardens provides an attractive setting of open space, formal
and informal planting for the parish church in Leatherhead.
The open spaces are a mixture of the formal and the informal,
some valuable as space for play equipment and gardens, others
providing habitats that are important for wildlife. All
the local communities in the Leatherhead area are well served
by open spaces and they add significantly to the quality
of life of local people and visitors as well as contributing
to the distinctiveness of the local environment. |
