Young People
Within the Mole Valley District a youth council was established
in 2002 to
give young people an opportunity to voice their
opinions and influence decisions. This is called Youth
Voice and is a very
important development for young people in this area.
It covers a wide variety of topics from the provision of
a skate park, crime
and disorder and an event's programme.
The Leatherhead Youth Café is to open in early
2004 at All Saint's Church on
Kingston Road. This will be a place where young
people can meet their friends, have coffee and use facilities
such as a pool
table and TV. There will be special events and film nights.
The 'information
zone' will offer access to services such as counsellors,
a drugs and alcohol
worker, careers guidance, sexual health advice, the internet
and library of
books and leaflets. Staffed by professional and trained
voluntary workers,
the centre will be open after school and at weekends.
The Bridge Youth Club is the local club and almost 40
years old. It provides
different activities for young people from age 7 and is
open for different
age groups on different nights of the week. Other youth
clubs are available
in Great Bookham and Ashtead to provide a good range of
opportunities for
young people to meet friends and enjoy a variety of activities. |
