Days Out for Families
Leatherhead offers a fantastic range of activities for
families looking for a day out. Chessington World of Adventures,
on the northern edge of the town, is one of the country's
leading theme parks. It also has an Active Learning Programme
and facilities for school visits. Bocketts Farm is on the
southern edge of Leatherhead. This working farm is particularly
popular with children. Birthday parties are a speciality
and school tours are welcome. The farm has an excellent
tea room in one of the historic barns.
The National Trust at Box Hill has an education centre
and displays suitable for children. There is also a children's
quiz and trail. Polesden Lacey also provides a trail and
quiz. Both properties have baby changing facilities.
In an area noted for its wonderful landscape and ecology,
there are several organisations offering educational opportunities
for young people. High Ashurst Outdoor Centre, located
within 56 acres of woods and heathland, provides a range
of land-based activities for all ages. Nower Wood is the
headquarters of the Surrey Wildlife Trust Education Department
and offers environmental education for school children,
together with themed open days and fun days for children
within the school holidays. Juniper Hall is the home of
the Field Studies Council. Located within a magnificent
house dating back to the 17th century, it offers residential
and day courses on a range of topics related to the countryside,
its wildlife and the environment.
