| Within this section of the web
site you will find a variety of suggestions of things
to do and places to visit, all within Leatherhead or
the countryside around the town. There are plenty of
ideas that allow you to leave the car behind, or to
use the National Trust Surrey Hills Explorer bus.
All ages are catered for, with special provision
for younger visitors at attractions such as Bocketts
Farm and Chessington World of Adventures. It is the
glory of the Surrey Hills, however, that is the area's
greatest attraction. Designated as one of the country's
most outstanding landscapes, there are within the
hills picturesque villages, guided walks and historic
houses. The cultural associations within town and
country are especially rich and they make for a fascinating
range of visits. Norbury Park, Ashtead Park and Polesden
Lacey are on the English Heritage Register of Historic
Parks and Gardens, reflecting their association with
great cultural or landscape movements of the past.
The place to start a visit is still the town of Leatherhead
itself. Here the River Mole makes its way between
islands and under the delightful 14 arch town bridge.
Here the shops, cafes, galleries and theatre sit amongst
an eclectic mix of architectural styles. The ancient
parish church and historic houses of past local families
are evidence of a varied past and a lively town.
